Our story
Benfleet Methodist Church is a welcoming, warm and friendly Church, with a very wide age-range of people who attend both Church Services and the many varied and extensive activities.
Built originally in 1931 the premises were rebuilt and refurbished in 2005 and 2009 and now comprise a building that is absolutely fit for purpose in the 21st Century providing facilities for worship, education, social care, community involvement and general recreational activity.
Benfleet Methodist Church - 1877
The original Wesleyan Chapel in what is now School Lane at a time when South Benfleet was a small village, mainly engaged in agriculture and centred on the area around St Marys Church. The building actually had an underground stream below it that caused it to become unsafe hence the need to move to a new site and new building in the High Road.
Benfleet Methodist Church - 1931
The new Methodist Church to serve a growing population in South Benfleet with many people making the journey to London to work, and the village was becoming larger with housing developments going along towards Hopes Green and Cemetery Corner with and the new school that opened in 1926.
Benfleet Methodist Church - Today
The 1931 premises had been extended and new halls added in the 1950s and 1960s. Then in 2005 the new Welcome Area was added at the front of the church, quickly followed in 2009 with the refurbishment of the Church itself and the rebuilding of all the ancillary halls and other facilities. It now comprises a building that is absolutely fit for purpose in the 21st Century providing facilities for worship, education, social care, community involvements and general recreational activities.
